2121/417/MY/AMRC/18 metallurgy technical training services framework (15 lots) The University of Sheffield wishes to invite tenders for metallurgy technical training services on behalf of the advanced manufacturing research Centre, Training Centre at Catcliffe, South Yorkshire. This framework requires experts in the processing and applications of metals with in-depth knowledge of metallurgy and extensive industrial experience. Formal or informal experience in staff training would be a major advantage. The requirement is to support the AMRC Training Centre’s team in the development and delivery of an expanding suite of continuous professional development (CPD) training courses on various aspects of metallurgy. A half-day course that provides non-technical staff with a practical understanding of the applications of metals in engineering. A one day overview of simple crystallography, mechanical properties, metals processing, typical applications, standards & specifications A more detailed, two day version of Fundamentals of Metallurgy A one day overview of primary processing, heat treatment, secondary processing, machining, joining & surface treatment of ferrous & non-ferrous alloys. A one day overview of why metals are heat treated, strengthening mechanisms, HT terminology, furnace options, accreditation & testing of heat treated products A one day overview of the practicalities of heat treatment, including temperature & furnace atmosphere control. A one day overview of the definition & philosophy of Quality and of Quality Assurance, Quality Control & Quality Tools A one day review of strengthening mechanisms, failure mechanisms, corrosion, failure analysis techniques and methods for failure prevention. A one day overview of testing methods for hardness, tensile, toughness, creep, fatigue and NDT (surface & volumetric) A one day review of the mechanisms for pitting, crevice, galvanic, SCC, erosion & microbial corrosion. Inspection & testing techniques, product design & plating/coating techniques for preventing corrosion. A one day overview of primary & secondary steel processing, joining technologies, mechanical properties, standards, specifications & applications. A one day account of primary & secondary steel processing, the roles of alloying elements, material testing & chemical analysis and steel grades & applications. A one day account of primary & secondary stainless steel processing, the roles of alloying elements, material testing & chemical analysis and steel grades & applications A one day overview of primary & secondary processing, properties, specifications, nomenclature & applications of aluminium, titanium, nickel & copper alloys.
