Tender description

The following 5 Network Rail challenge statements will be run as a design contest via a Hackathon event (HackTrain VI). A Hackathon is an event to driving forward innovation within the rail industry by fundamentally improving customer experience and operational efficiency. This is done by running an annual Hackathon that brings together the very best tech and rail innovators challenging them to create new technologies in a short period of time. This event will be run on behalf of Network Rail by an external organisation — hack partners. For further information refer to the website — http://hackpartners.com/events/hacktrain-vi The HackTrain VI event will be run over 3 days, 15.11.2019-17.11.2019, individual applicants can apply to participant in the event. The application process will be a 2 staged process, with the deadline for the first stage closing on 31.10.2019. Please note that applicant selection will start immediately and therefore the application process (detailed in the scoring and criteria document) may close early is all places are filled. There is a maximum of 80 participants. Please note that application are on an individual basis and no joint or team applications are allowable. Network rail challenge statements: Asset management How Network Rail can improve its asset management capabilities through better information, mapping, prediction and maintenance. Operations How Network Rail can improve its operational capabilities, allowing for more trains on the network or less delays/incidents to occur. Stations How Network Rail can make stations better from a communication/design/operational/management perspective, directly and indirectly for passengers. Planning How Network Rail can improve its planning processes across the business in areas such as timetabling, maintenance and renewals. Performance How Network Rail can improve its performance and resilience to performance detriment using new technologies and better utilisation of data, during 'business-as-usual' times and also during times of adverse weather. As part of this design contest, the successful teams at the HackTrain VI event will be given the opportunity to negotiate a service contract with Network Rail. The event will also have Hackathon winner, this element of the event is not part of this design contest.
