The Intellectual Property Office (IPO) intends to award a contract to Bureau Van Dijk (BvD) for the purchase of an annual subscription to the Orbis IP global private company data resource. This database will expand the IPO’s current research capabilities by allowing research into foreign Intellectual Property (IP) applicants. Such analysis allows global comparison and provides insight into the foreign firms applying for IP in the UK. This database will expand the IPO’s current research capabilities by allowing research into foreign Intellectual Property (IP) applicants. Such analysis allows global comparison and provides insight into the foreign firms applying for IP in the UK. The IPO currently subscribes to BvD’s FAME database, which contains private company information from the UK. The IPO intends to expand the coverage of private company data through a subscription to Orbis IP, which contains company data, ownership hierarchies and patent information for global private companies. The IPO has identified the Orbis IP dataset as the most appropriate product to fulfil this requirement as it provides global company data. It is also distributed in a flat file format, which can be uploaded easily into the IPO’s current databases.
