Review of International Sustainable Tourism Policy and recommendations on Policy, Guiding Principles & Implementation for Sustainable Tourism Development in Ireland

The Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport is currently finalising the Tourism Action Plan 2019-2021 for Ireland and one of the actions within this is to review international policy and best practise in sustainable tourism and propose recommendations on guiding principles for sustainable tourism development in Ireland. Following on from the above Failte Ireland in partnership with and on behalf of the Department for Transport, Tourism and Sport (DTTAS) and Tourism Ireland (here after referred to as the Sustainable Tourism Working Group) is seeking a suitable service provider to research and develop recommendations for a National Sustainable Tourism Policy for Ireland. The research, development and implementation of any such policy must support the Government policy on sustainable development and take direction from The Sustainable Development Goals National Implementation Plan 2018-2020. Fáilte Ireland on behalf of the Sustainable Tourism Working Group is seeking a robust review of current international best practice in developing sustainable tourism policy; recommendations on proposing guiding principles for sustainable tourism development; recommending a national level sustainable tourism policy; and providing recommendations on successful implementation. The outputs of this work will be delivered to the Sustainable Tourism Work Group in a format that can be easily shared with and implemented by tourism stakeholders at all levels nationally.
