Summary of the work OPSS digital require an interim highly skilled specialist interaction designer to support our digital portfolio. This work is of immediate priority and supports key strands addressing EU Exit priorities and building national capacity for product safety. Specialist role Designer Expected Contract Length Please refer to the "additional terms and conditions" section for this information Latest start date Tuesday 7 May 2019 Maximum Day Rate £650 per day. Our budget range is £110,000 to £180,000 excl VAT. This includes the optional extension period as stated above. Early Market Engagement N/A Who Speclialist Work With You will work as part of the OPSS digital team. The team is a mix of OPSS permanent staff, GDS loanees and contractors currently consisting of: Head of Digital UX Design lead Product Managers User Researchers Content Designers Business Analysts Developers (including a DDaT apprentice software engineer) QA Tester PMO lead We are supplemented by external supplier delivery partners who provide delivery management, technical leadership, developers and UX design support. What Specialists Work On OPSS digital team require an interim highly skilled specialist interaction designer. This work is of immediate priority and supports developing digital services for EU Exit priorities and building national capacity for product safety. We currently have a number of services in development which are designed to mitigate the loss of EU systems following EU Exit. Some of these directly serve the goal of building national capacity for product safety which is central to the role of OPSS. Skills & Experience • Demonstrate how you will apply your skills and expertise to… • Work with user researchers, collaborating on the design of research and able to respond to user research findings and how this will ensure successful delivery of this service. (14%) • Develop prototypes (wire frames/coded prototypes/etc.) iteratively via user testing/research and how this will ensure the successful delivery of this service. (14%) • Design accessible interfaces and how this will ensure the successful delivery of this service. (14%) • Work closely with developers to make sure implementation of the service is consistent and accessible and how this will ensure the successful delivery of this service. (14%) Nice to Haves Work with and design services that meet the GDS Digital Service Standard and how this will ensure the successful delivery of this service. (4 %) Work Location The primary site will be 1 Victoria Street, London SW1H 0ET. However, OPSS have other sites including Birmingham and Teddington and the team may be required to work there on occasion to engage with OPSS colleagues and stakeholders. There may be a requirement for travel to other UK stakeholder sites to conduct business. Working Arrangments The team is co-located at 1 Victoria Street, London and adhere to BEIS normal working hours (09:00 - 17:00). At appointed days the team may work onsite at one of our other supplier premises (currently London based). The team also work occasionally at OPSS sites in Birmingham and Teddington. OPSS will meet any additional travel costs incurred away from the London office. These will be met in line with the BEIS travel and subsistence policy. OPSS are happy to consider remote working arrangements agreed at the discretion of the OPSS head of digital or service product manager. Security Clearance Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance required. BEIS will sponsor this if necessary. Additional T&Cs Expected contract length: We expect this contract to last 6 months. However, we may exercise the option to extend for a further 3-6 months if required. We have an excellent (Senior) Interaction Designer but they can likely only do 3 - 4 days per week (possibly somewhat longer hours per day) Do you think that 3 or 4 days a week may be possible for this, or is 5 days a week a requirement? We would consider candidates with the right skills and expertise who are available for at least 4 days per week but this will need to made explicit in the application.
