Tender description

Non-exclusive Framework Agreement for the supply of Procedure Packs to NHS Supply Chain depots via the Stock and Blue Diamond Routes and to the NHS Supply Chain customer base via the Direct/E-Direct Route. A procedure pack is defined as a bundle of single use medical consumables that are contained in a sterile package for use during a surgical or a medical procedure. The packs can either be: (i) bespoke to a customer’s specific requirements or; (ii) of a standard specification recognised across the NHS. This area covers a variety of packs used predominantly on wards. Descriptions may include wound care, dressing, cannulation and oral hygiene. Common components include swabs, gloves, aprons, galipots and tape measures. The packs are big bulky packs which include a wide range of components used to complete invasive procedures. The main value to the packs comes from the draping platforms included within the pack. Whilst theatres do cover a wide remit of procedures, the majority of spend sits with Laparoscopic and Orthopaedics. Whilst theatres do cover a wide remit of procedures, the majority of spend sits with Laparoscopic and Orthopaedics. Interventional Radiology Packs (Cardio Packs) are built very bespoke to the end user and normally include components which are brand or quality prohibitive to run mini competitions on. Cardiologists will be trained using certain components such as guidewires meaning switching components becomes increasingly difficult to change. The risk of fatality when dealing with the heart is extremely high if asked to use products which they are not familiar with. Also known as pain management packs, these packs tend to include a relatively standard set of components. Used to prepare the patient and administer pain relief, the bulk of the cost is in the needles which differs in size and gauge. There is relatively high brand preference, but this isn’t a barrier to change. Central Venous Catheter packs are predominantly built around the needles / lines included in the pack and specific drapes which give the user clear visibility of the area of insertion. These packs can be competed but normally are left due a good standard of national packs being available to trusts. Instrument packs are built up of only instruments and no other components. Procedures such as podiatry and suture sets would come under this category. Core components will be scissors / stitch cutters / forceps / tweezers. Very few suppliers manufacture their own instruments as these are sourced in the far east and follow the same interdependencies as the single use instrument framework. Any lack of supply on that framework will be replicated on this framework. Supplemental Packs (Poly Packs) include just plastic polyware products such as galipots / kidney dishes / basins / bowls / jugs. These are used as supplemental packs to all other packs. Only companies with moulding machines are realistically able to source and supply these in the relevant quantities. Moulding machines are available at certain suppliers. All others would have to purchase from these to then re supply adding additional cost on to a low cost product. Innovation is classed as anything new into the market which requires something making bespoke normally for only one user. Recent examples of this would be robotic packs to work with surgical robots or Ambulance first response kits.
