BHC wishes to purchase a new hydraulic material handler, to be used in the unloading and loading of steel coils and scrap. It should also be capable of discharging dry bulk materials (mainly coal and grain) and refuse-derived fuel (RDF) to / from ocean-going vessels. BHC may, but gives no commitment that it shall, also purchase parts, spares packages, support and/or services from the successful bidder. BHC wishes to purchase a new hydraulic material handler to be used in the unloading and loading of dry bulk materials (mainly coal and grain), scrap and refuse-derived fuel (RDF) to / from ocean-going vessels. The material handler must be suitable for use on vessels ranging from 4000 - 36500 tonnes. It must also be capable of discharging steel coils up to a weight of 30 tonnes per coil on the largest ships serviced at the harbor. The material handler must also be capable of discharging the following commodities at rates of a minimum of 400 tonnes per hour based on the following materials and bulk densities: — coal - 0.9 t/m3, — grain - 0.9 t/m3, — fertiliser - 1.2 t/m3, — RDF - 0.8 t/m3, — woodchip - 0.25 t/m3, and, — scrap (various). As part of the package, various attachments would also be required, namely two bulk handling grabs, an orange peel (scrap) grab, an orange peel grab (for woodchip), an RDF bale grab, steel coil clamp and a hook. The material handler must also be capable of traveling on roads around the Belfast Harbour estate, the various quays and should have a maximum wheel loading which does not exceed 15 tonnes per wheel. The material handler must be diesel driven. BHC may, but gives no commitment that it shall, also purchase parts, spares packages, support and / or services from the successful bidder. At the invitation to negotiate stage of this process, shortlisted bidders will be provided with BHC's specific functionality requirements for the material handler, in relation to which bidders will be asked to provide their proven design and demonstrate how the material handler will operate including (if requested by BHC) by way of a site visit at the bidder's cost.
