Safer Homes South Yorkshire (SHSY) A service for vulnerable families with children under the age of 2, who meet the eligibility criteria. For families to be eligible one of the parents/carers need to be claiming benefits or have a child on a child protection/child in need plan. We are looking for a single provider to supply and fit free home safety equipment in the homes of families in need in a single visit. The equipment includes safety gates, fire guard, corner cushions, cupboard locks, bath mat, window restrictors and blind cord winders. In addition families are also provided with comprehensive home safety information. The area of benefit is South Yorkshire, with a focus on deprived communities. Critical to the success of the programme, will be a partnership with South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue (SYFR) to reduce risks in the homes of families most in need. In addition to fitting of the safety equipment, fitters will need expertise in risk assessment of fire and child accident risks in the home; provide appropriate advice, test or install smoke detectors free of charge. Fitters will be trained to make appropriate referrals to the SYFR Safe and Well scheme.
