Framework for the provision of Safe Pass Tutor Training

SOLAS, the Further Education and Training Authority was established in October 2013. SOLAS has a staff complement of approximately 210 people operating from Block 1 Castleforbes House, Castleforbes Road Dublin 1 The Safe PASS Unit which is part of the Construction Unit offers a range of programmes for the construction sector in keeping with schedule 4 and 5 of the Safety Health and Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations 2013. The SOLAS Safe Pass Health and Safety Awareness Training Programme is just one programme which is contained in the range of programmes within SOLAS & Construction Training Unit. The purpose of the SOLAS Safe Pass Health and Safety Awareness Training Programme is to ensure, over the course of time, that all construction workers, will have a basic knowledge on Health and Safety, and be able to work on site without being a risk to themselves or others who might be affected by their acts or omissions. The SOLAS Safe Pass Health and Safety Awareness Training Programme are incorporated into the Safety Health and Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations 2013 and make it a mandatory requirement for workers in construction to be in possession of a SOLAS Safe Pass Card. The aims of the programme is to raise the standard of safety awareness in the Construction Industry, to ensure that all site personnel undergo basic health and safety awareness training with the view to making a positive contribution to the prevention of accidents and avoidance of health hazards, to maintain a register of personnel who have received such training and to provide all participants with a SOLAS Safe Pass registration card which will indicate that the holder has attended a formal course in health and safety awareness. The SOLAS Safe Pass Health and Safety Awareness Training Programme has been in operation since 2000 and to date 1,688,000 Safe Pass cards have been issued.
