Tender description
Based adjacent to the Royal Derby Hospital site, located three miles from the city centre, the Radbourne Unit is the Trust's main inpatient service for Derby and South Derbyshire residents with acute mental health needs. The Radbourne Unit consists of four adult acute inpatient wards called Ward 33, Ward 34, Ward 35 and Ward 36, an enhanced care ward (ECW), an electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) team, occupational therapy and the crisis resolution and home treatment services. The site vehicular entrance is approached off the Royal Derby Hospital Loop Road East, from the hospital's Entrance B off Uttoxeter Road. Demand for parking spaces within the Radbourne Unit site is high, especially during visitor periods and at staff shift changeover times. The existing tarmacadam car parking areas currently provide 123nr car parking spaces including 6nr disabled parking bays with access zones. Additionally the Trust provides 12nr cycle spaces; 10nr located within a cycle shelter and 2nr individual bike bins. This existing car parking is used by both staff and visitors arriving by vehicle. The 4nr disabled bays on the main access road will be relocated to opposite the main entrance to facilitate the construction of 10nr new end on parking bays. It is proposed to increase the staff and visitors car park by 52 bays in various locations on the site to relieve the current congestion and parking on pavements and soft landscaped areas. The present site surface water drainage is via an underground pipe system discharging into the balancing pond at the eastern boundary of the site. It is proposed to connect the new drainage from the car parking at the northeast corner of the site into this existing system via storage and attenuation. The small infill areas of new car parking will utilise the existing gully and drainage system.
