Tender description

The company Instructure produces a software product called Canvas. This is a virtual learning environment used on and off campus by all staff and students at the University of Birmingham to support learning and enhance the overall student experience. In particular, Canvas is an iterative learner management system with regular product update releases every three weeks. The University of Birmingham is currently undertaking several major projects on and off campus to align with its ambitious strategic plans. The embedded role of the VLE Canvas plays a significant role in the planned success of these projects They include: — CTL Project: a 40 000 000 GBP investment in the Collaborative Teaching Laboratories (CTL) leading up to 2020 .Phase 2 of this is scheduled to open in September 2018. The VLE Canvas is an integral part of the planned success for this project. — Dubai Campus September 2018;The opening of a brand new campus in Dubai from September 2018. The use of the VLE Canvas is a critical feature of this project not only for its impact on the overall student experience but more specifically for the development of new innovative teaching and learning modules in Canvas. The development of these offers significant mirrored benefits to the equivalent UK Campus modules. Continuity of VLE product choice is essential to successful opening of the University of Birmingham Dubai campus in 2018. — Lecture capture 2018 /2019: The success of the phase 1 and phase 2 institutional roll out of an enhanced lecture capture system is implicitly linked to the current VLE Canvas to ensure a seamless student experience. At the University of Birmingham. — VLE software integration projects 2018 /2019: The integration to Canvas with associated tools and software is critical to the successful delivery of the significant projects outlined above and more broadly across campus and enhance the student experience. The University is undertaking a significant period of high profile chance. The continuation of service with our current VLE provider and established supplier relations is a critical success factor in the delivery of these projects. The success of these projects also relies on the continued engagement with the VLE by staff and students. Changing the VLE product choice at this critical juncture in the timeline of these major projects will impact significantly on the staff and student experience and thee overall success of all the projects. Therefore we request an extension to the current contract of 3 years.
