Tender description
Victoria Coach Station (VCS) is a subsidiary of Transport for London (TfL).The primary role of the company is to provide an arrivals and departures facility for coaches in London, with off-street setting down and picking-up. It also provides of a safe and comfortable environment for coach operators’ operational staff, coach travellers and members of the public. Underpinning the operations of VCS is the Bus Information Display System (BIDS). TfL is considering replacing BIDS with a more efficient and ultimately resource saving system, and is looking to engage with potential suppliers in determining possible solutions. TfL is therefore looking to hold a supplier engagement day to present the desired future state of VCS and invite suppliers to discuss potential market solutions. The proposed date is Friday 27th April. Interested parties are asked to contact georgebarratt@tfl.gov.uk by 20.4.2018 - 15:00 for further details on the requirement and supplier engagement day. Underpinning the operations of VCS is the Bus Information Display System (BIDS). VCS currently use the system for: — preparing Arrivals and Departures Schedules for Coach Operators, — managing coach operators that need the services of VCS on an ad-hoc basis, — providing information to coach customers. These are typically arrivals and departures information and any other relevant messages. These information /messages are displayed on the electronic customer information display units, and — registering actual arrivals and departures of coaches from the station. This information forms the basis for subsequently billing coach operators for their use of the facilities at VCS. The BIDS system has been in use since 1996. VCS currently uses version 3.68 of the software. The system currently runs on SQL Server 2000 enterprise edition. The hardware infrastructure is hosted by TfL and has been recently moved to TfL’s data centre. The current software is supported by Vix Technology.
