Tender description
The University of Birmingham invites tenders for the supply of a series of equipment to provide for the delivery of a new undergraduate lab programme for the School of Chemical Engineering. Please note that only suppliers who are able to supply the whole equipment list should submit a tender response. The lab equipment will be used by groups of 3 students, and should be robust and use industrially relevant componentry where applicable. Further specification details are provided in the Tender document available on the University's In-Tend portal. A reliable service package is required to ensure the full upkeep and efficiency of these products.This can range from service care contracts for durations after installation to warranties for equipment and what they include.This will also include all technical support and training as well as potential application requirements in the future. Suppliers will agree to provide operational support for the duration of the paid for service contract. B2 HEX base unit with interchangeable tube-in-tube, plate, shell and tube, stirred tank etc units Heat Exchanger Supply Unit (x 4). Tubular HEX x 4. Plate HEX x 1. Shell HEX x 1. Stirred Tank, Jacket and Coil HEX x 1 Purpose. Allow students to investigate heat transfer in different model HEX configurations. C3 Air flow pressure drop rigs purpose. Allow study of pressure drop in pipes and fittings with gas as fluid. E1 Gas absorption purpose. Allow student to study gas absorption (typically CO2 / air into water). F1 Distillation. Purpose Allow students to study distillation. H1 Reactor base unit with interchangeable plug flow, CSTR, batch etc reactor units. Purpose. Allow students to investigate simple chemical reactions in the standard basic reactor. Configurations. J1 Refrigeration. Compression refrigeration cycle, water cooled-evaporator, variable load. Purpose. Investigate thermodynamic cycle. K1 Pump Trainers. Purpose. To expose student to various pump types and set ups. This could be a single complex rig or. Multiple single rigs. L1 Evaporation. Evaporation investigation of typical boiling/phase change phenomena. Purpose. Allow students to visualise key phase change (boiling) phenomena. M1 Crystallisation. Purpose. Allow student to investigate crystallisation as an industrial unit operation. N1 Filtration. Purpose. To expose students to a number of industrial relevant water filtration. Methods. O1 Stirred tank (heated and sparged). Purpose. To allow student to investigate heat transfer, mixing and gas exchange within a stirred tank. P1 Basic process control of level, flow, pressure, temperature. Purpose. Expose student to various key process control measurements and there use in control. Q2 Multivariable control rig. Purpose. To expose students to industrial style rig and aspects of multivariable control. R1 Fluidised Bed (pressure drop and heating / temp measurement). Investigate fluidised bed behaviour. Purpose. Measure pressure drop across packed and fluidised bed. See thermal response of bed to heating. S1 Build a pump / valve. Purpose. To give students the option to build a pump or valve, to understand better what is required. In their manufacture and use. Detailed specifications and requirements are provided in the Tender document available on the University's In-Tend portal. Support and service help. A reliable service package is required to ensure the full upkeep and efficiency of the products.
