Sleepers

Tender description

The tender was for the design and build of a concrete sleeper manufacturing facility at Bescot and the supply of up to 600 000 concrete railway sleepers per annum from that site (including the loading and unloading ofNetwork Rail's track relaying and delivery trains). These sleepers will predominantly be for use in infrastructure owned and maintained by Network Rail, but may include sleepers for Transport for London, HS2 and other relevant third parties. The contract is for a 15 year term commencing on the date that satisfactory planning approval is achieved. Network Rail has awarded a framework agreement for the construction of a concrete sleeper manufacturing facility and the supply of concrete railway sleepers (minimum 200 000 per annum, maximum 600 000 per annum) from that facility. Approximately 60 % are G44, 22 % EG47, 15 % EG49, 3 % others. The supplier will be required to obtain ‘product approval’ from Network Rail prior to supply to verify that the products comply with the specification set out in the tender documentation.
