Development of a Cultural Strategy for Sutton

Sutton Council are looking to develop a Cultural Strategy for Sutton with a target for some form of borough wide resident consultation taking place in June 2018. 'Improbable' have been commissioned to facilitate six targeted engagement events which will take place in October 2017. These will be a conversation with diverse groups in the borough about what cultural activities they are involved in, are interested in and opportunities for the future. It is important to note that the Council has very limited resource to invest in arts, cultural activity, most of which is already committed. Sutton is an outer London borough and different from many others such as Southwark or County Councils. The cultural Strategy will therefore not be about commissioning or further investment by the Council but will be focused upon what we have now, facilitating local groups to come together, to form networks, diversity, and development of Sutton's cultural offer through community effort. We have been successful in a recent Heritage Action Zone bid and colleagues in Environment, Housing and Regeneration are working on a whole Town Centre Masterplan and regeneration.
