Tender description

IE currently provides an on-board passenger Wi-Fi service across its fleet of passenger rolling stock. This system is a 3G/4G cellular based system that requires maintenance, upkeep, monitoring and customer support across the Electric Multiple Unit (EMU), Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU), Intercity Railcar and loco hauled carriage rolling stock fleets. The current Wi-Fi system was installed on the above IE fleets in 2012 and has been progressively upgraded over that time period to meet growing customer demand. The system has approx. 500 000 registered users and handles approx. 30 Tb of mobile data per month. Data is provided to users under a fair usage policy. The scope of the contract resulting from this procurement process will be to design, supply, install and maintain a new passenger accessible, rolling stock based Wi-Fi- system. As an option IE may also request tenderers to quote for the provision of mobile data from appropriate Irish-based service providers.
