PHE's Centre of Radiation, Chemicals and Environmental Hazards (CRCE) created a bespoke website system called ‘Insight’ in 2008 in conjunction with the integrated commercial websites. Insight is the business support system that includes capabilities such as an eCommerce back office, website enquiry handling, content and contract management/bid system etc. The website uses the PHP scripting language with static content being managed via the MUSE CMS. A restricted number of page templates are used to present a coherent style that diligently adheres to the corporate brand with dynamic content managed via Insight and pulled from the SQL database on demand. The income raised from the above systems is in the region of 1 000 000 GBP per year. CRCE require a supplier to update and maintain Insight and the dependent websites.
