Tender description

The supply of telecommunications infrastructure, supporting facilities, equipment and services to enable Jisc to support the connectivity requirements of the Janet community over the next 5-10 years. The scope of provision of this requirement is detailed in section 1.4 of the PQQ document. Access connectivity, together with aggregation/co-location facilities, including but not limited to short haul managed circuit products (EAD or equivalent) aggregated in Janet PoPs potentially located in telco or provider-neutral premises, with (resilient) backhaul to Janet, wavelength services, dark fibre, aggregated in Janet PoPs potentially located in telco premises, with (resilient) backhaul to Janet and next generation managed products (Etherway/Etherflow or equivalent), aggregated by the supplier and presented at Janet backbone PoP locations. It is envisaged that a limited number of suppliers will be awarded a contract under this Lot. In order to future proof the investment under this framework JSL is looking to procure hardware capable of providing an edge demarcation between the site and the Janet network. These devices need to form part of a unified solution capable of providing speeds from 1 Gb/s through multiple 10 Gb/s to 100 Gb/s over the duration of the lifetime of the framework. Whilst a single device does not need to be in-life for all these stages a solution based upon a single family of devices is preferred to reduce operational complexity. In addition a range of aggregation devices may be needed as part of the deployment in order more efficiently to utilise the services procured under Lot 1. Organisations tendering for Lot 2 should be aware that the current Janet 6 core is built using a combination of Ciena and Juniper hardware and interoperability with these manufacturers' equipment is paramount. JSL intends to select a single supplier under this Lot. Professional services, including but not necessarily limited to design, deployment and ongoing support for equipment and field engineering operations. It is envisaged that a limited number of suppliers will be awarded a contract under this Lot.
