Tender description

The Dean Castle project sits with the context of the recently awarded Dean Castle Country Park ‘Parks for People’ funding that will redesign the park in line with the research and conclusions developed in the Conservation Management Plan (CMP). The vision for the Dean Castle and Country Park Development Project is to create a 5 star visitor attraction, helping to maximise the opportunities for visitors to participate in, appreciate and value their local heritage. The Project is being funded from an overall budget allocation of 5 200 000 GBP funded from various sources including Historic Scotland, Heritage Lottery Fund and East Ayrshire Council. The project comprises the essential stonework restoration to the external fabric of the Castle buildings, internal modernisation and re-display of museum collections and exhibition areas. The funding will also support a range of apprenticeship and learning programmes around the stonework restoration and collection conservation aspects of the project. Works will be subject to strict conservation principles. Scheme design has currently reached the end of RIBA plan of work 2013 stage 3, and the project has progressed to Historic Scotland Arch 3 stage. Building warrant, planning permission and listed building consent is the responsibility of the Council and will be in place prior to contract start date. Works relate to the refurbishment of the existing Keep, Palace, Gatehouse, Covered Walkway, Courtyard and former Laundry found at the rear of the complex. A programme of works of up to 4 years to the noted buildings is envisaged with sectional completion. The anticipated programme from tender to start is as follows: Contract Notice Issued (PQQ — 2 Stage) 12.6.2017; PQQ Return Date 7.7.2017; Notification of short-list 7.8.2017; Issue of Tender Documents to Short-list 14.8.2017; Tender Return Date 11.10.2017; Standstill 10.11.2017; Contract Award 21.11.2017; Pre-Start Meeting w/b 4.12.2017; Construction Start Date 15.1.2017.
