Tender description

The Contract is intended to provide information in respect of the ground and groundwater conditions along the proposed route of the N22 Baile Bhuirne to Macroom Road Development. The scheme involves approx. 22 km route corridor commencing to the west of Ballyvourney at Slievereagh on the existing N22, running east and crossing the existing N22 at Coolnacaheragh and Carrigaphooca, then passing to the north of Macroom. The scheme rejoins the existing N22 approximately 2km south of Macroom, where it is to tie into a proposed roundabout near Coolcour. The area is based at the foot hills of the Derrynasaggart Mountains, with areas of high ground and steep slopes are generally characterised by the presence of rocky outcrops. The alignment generally traverses through an open, rural, undulating landscape. Existing land use along the proposed alignment is primarily agricultural (grassland, tillage, horticulture and livestock rearing), with occasional, watercourses and regional and local roads. Rocky and boggy terrain is to be expected. There are approximately ten cut sections along the length of the route with maximum depths ranging between 10 and 28 metres. Trial pits and/or boreholes are required to assess the suitability of the material and depth and conditions of the bedrock. Cable Percussion holes should range in depth from 2 to 15 metres. Rotary Core Holes will be advanced from the base of Cable Percussion holes at structures and also at deep cutting locations. There are approximately six embankment locations along the route and trial pits and/or boreholes are located to confirm the suitability of the underlying material to carry the loading of the proposed fill material. The embankments range up to maximum heights between 7 and 10 metres.
