Tender description

In October 2016 the Universities of Leeds and Cambridge are issued a joint tender for equipment to support advanced materials research funded by the Royce Institute. At the Universities of Cambridge and Leeds there is a large emerging research activity on materials for energy efficient information and communication technology, with a focus on materials discovery, and the development, optimisation and characterisation of novel materials to engineer change. This research activity requires the chemical surface analysis of materials and devices under a wide range of application relevant, environmental conditions. Rapid turnaround with controlled sample transfers from local processing and fabrication facilities is thereby essential to drive fast materials and device development cycles. Hence the University is now seeking to purchase a X-ray photo-emission spectroscopy (XPS) system that can overcome the limitations of standard XPS and similar characterisation techniques by enabling high-throughput analyses of a wide range of materials (incl. liquids) in reactive conditions and atmospheres far above the high vacuum regime. This lot consists of 2 deposition chambers, a buffer/sample preparation chamber and a load lock. The 2 growth chambers are intended for Molecular beam epitaxy of complex alloys with 2D properties such as topologically protected transport.
