Tender description

Kent County Council is seeking a suitable contractor to complete the following works. The M20 Junction 4 scheme is to widen the eastern over bridge to provide an additional lane on the gyratory. M20 Junction 4 is a key junction on the A228 strategic route between the Medway Towns and the A21 at Tunbridge Wells. The scheme is required to cater for the additional traffic from existing and planned development along the A228 Medway Valley corridor and at West Malling. The western over bridge was widened in 2006 to provide 4 lanes. Traffic modelling has indicated that the eastern over bridge only needs to be widened by 1 lane to provide 3 lanes overall. The key features include: — Demolition of existing cantilever parapet. — Piled abutment foundations. — Composite steel beam and concrete deck construction. — Minor re-grading of the entry and exit slips where they interface with the additional lane over the widened bridge. — Associated deck waterproofing, surfacing and parapet works. — Amendments to the traffic signals at the junction of the gyratory and London bound exit slip. — Amendments to motorway communications. — Re-provision of cutting slope maintenance access steps to motorway communications cabinets. — Provision of new street lighting. — Provision of soft landscaping works. — Provision of associated signing and lining.
