Summary of the work Microsoft Access/ Excel/ VB6/ VBA/ VS developer to support and enhance the MOJ's business applications. Specialist role Developer Expected Contract Length Up to 24 months. Initial period of 3 months. Latest start date 12/12/2016 Maximum Day Rate £465 per day excl. VAT Early Market Engagement none Who Speclialist Work With The developer will become part of the Tactical Products Agile support team within MOJ Digital with specific responsibility for applications developed using the Microsoft stack and will be added to the team of live incident Resolvers on the MoJ’s IT service desk. Taking & resolving incidents forwarded by the service desk, liaising as necessary (often face-to-face) with infrastructure suppliers and customers who placed the calls. The developer will be required to take part in daily standups, team retros, & regularly show work to the rest of the team and stakeholders. Plus document their work for future support purposes. What Specialists Work On Assist the team by delivering coding support & business changes to support live Microsoft applications. All tasks associated with applications development; requirements gathering, translation into work packages, technical designs, database designs, coding, full functional testing of completed work. The applications are Microsoft Access, VB6, VB.Net, MS SQL Server, Microsoft Word Templates with embedded VBA, and Microsoft Excel spreadsheets. The team is supporting and developing these and migrating some of them to the cloud; the developer will assist with migration. Microsoft cloud migration experience (Azure and Office 365) is an advantage. Skills & Experience • Data Analysis & Database Design • Experienced in small systems development methods, in particular within Agile teams • Unit testing, Peer Review (of your code and other team members code), Testing and managing user testing • Producing and managing your own development work - and demonstrating work to the rest of the Agile team and stakeholders • Excellent ability to understand and deconstruct complex VBA in MS Access & MS Excel • Quickly getting up to speed in understanding how Microsoft applications work • Writing well written and functioning code. (A code test will form part of the interview process) • Designing and developing using the following technology stack: § Microsoft Access 2003/2007/2013 (this must include the use of VBA) § MS Excel 2003/2005/2015 § MS Word 2003/2007/2013 • Designing and developing using the following technology stack § Visual Basic 6.0 § Windows XP/8.1/10 § MS SQL Server 2000/2005/2008/2014 § .NET 2005, VS 2005/2015 Nice to Haves • Experience of migrating VB.Net, MS SQL Server 2008/2014, VS2005/2015 to the cloud. • Experience of Microsoft cloud migration (both Azure and Office 365) would be an advantage, but is not essential. Work Location 102 Petty France, London SW1 - This assignment will mainly be carried out at these MOJ offices. From time to time travel will be required to other MoJ offices (normally in London) where customers are located, although this is infrequent. Working Arrangments Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. Is CTC required before commencement of the Role ? The MoJ is prepared to consider candidates who are not yet CTC cleared. However, Candidates who are not yet CTC cleared must be prepared to undergo the CTC clearance process, in the event that they are offered the role. Please note that the successful candidate cannot start the engagement without having CTC clearance. 2. Do candidates need to have active CTC clearance for this role or is the ability to be CTC cleared all they need? The MoJ is prepared to consider candidates who are not yet CTC cleared. However, Candidates who are not yet CTC cleared must be prepared to undergo the CTC clearance process, in the event that they are offered the role. Please note that the successful candidate cannot start the engagement without having CTC clearance.
