Provision of Adult Education within London Borough of Brent Soft Market

The Council directly delivers its adult education services through Brent Start. The service comprises of Skills for Life (ESOL, maths and English), vocational & employability courses and provision for community learning. Courses are currently delivered across 4 centres with a growing number offered in community settings across the borough. Our aim is to provide the highest standards of teaching to help Brent residents develop their skills, confidence and career paths. How this service is provided in the future is currently under review and this document is intended to inform the Council’s planning process and long-term service design. As part of the planning and redesign process for the provision of adult education within Brent, the Council wishes to undertake ‘soft market testing’ with capable organisations to: • Gain a clear understanding of what will and won’t work, both commercially for providers and in terms of service delivery for the Council • Develop a service specification incorporating new ideas that support effective and cost efficient service delivery. *Please note that we would specifically like to hear from providers operating in the London Borough of Brent and those familiar with the adult education challenges of the local area.
