Tender description
Junction upgrade comprising of: - Carriageway resurfacing including any associated drainage remedial works, improvements to existing traffic signals/street lighting infrastructure and the provision of new cycle facilities. The Works are located in the vicinity of the junction of Islington, St Anne Street, Hunter Street and Norton Street, in Liverpool. The scheme will upgrade the highway network at this location through the application of appropriate maintenance treatment, upgrading of existing infrastructure and inclusion of high quality pedestrian and cycling facilities. The following engineering activities define the scope of Works to be implemented through this contract:- ? Upgrading and repairs to the existing highway drainage system ? Carriageway resurfacing ? Footway improvements ? Introduction of shared cycling facilities on key routes ? Replacement and improvement of traffic signal junction layouts and infrastructure ? Alterations and replacement of traffic signage ? Associated adjustments to existing street lighting provision The junction and intersecting roads are heavily trafficked and subject to restricted working hours for activities affecting the carriageways. In recognition of this, night time and weekend working are permitted for construction of the Works. In particular, any works that significantly affect the carriageway, for example resurfacing and duct crossing construction have been specified to be carried out overnight, and tenderers are required to reflect this in the rates and prices submitted for these elements of work. Some traffic signal equipment specified within the Works Information will be prepared by specialist subcontractors and is expected to be subject to fabrication and delivery periods. It is important that the Principal Contractor is aware of these timescales and takes appropriate measures to ensure that the works are planned so that Completion is achieved within the specified timescale. The Works are expected to be completed on site by the end of November 2016, in advance of the Christmas restrictions placed on highway works in and around Liverpool City Centre during December. If, for whatever reason, the Works cannot be completed before the start of December, the Contractor will be expected to suspend work during December. This will include implementing appropriate temporary measures to ensure that the highway and signalised junctions are fully operational throughout December.
