Northern Gas Networks Limited (NGN) is the company responsible for distributing gas to homes and businesses across the North of England. As part of the restructuring of the gas distribution business in England, NGN successfully acquired the North of England Gas Distribution Network (DN) and took control of the assets on 1.6.2005. NGN has been responsible since then for the transportation of gas to the North of England via 36 000 km of pipelines. The DN is located in the North of England and extends south from the Scottish border to South Yorkshire and has coastlines on both the East and West sides of the region. The DN contains a mixture of large cities such as Newcastle, Middlesbrough, Leeds and Bradford and a significant rural area including North Yorkshire and Cumbria. The area covers around 6 700 000 inhabitants and has approximately 2 500 000 customers. The DN is supplied via 23 off-takes from the National Transmission System. Currently NGN replace approximately 570 km of mains and 44 000 services per year and provides 24/7 gas emergency services to our network. NGN's new Price Control Review from Ofgem offers real incentives for securing investment and driving innovation in order to ensure the delivery of sustainable energy networks for current and future consumers at the lowest cost, Northern Gas Networks will be a frontier performing company in harnessing and implementing these opportunities. NGN have a requirement to establish a contract with 1 single Supplier, for the provision of PE Asset Health to our gas pipelines to support the day-to-day work activities within the Northern Gas Network region. When identified as the optimum solution for a particular project/job, the services required could be in support of: — NGN's emergency, locate and repair team (they undertake circa 10 000 jobs per annum across the whole NGN region); — NGN's regulatory obligation to our annually planned Replacement Programme (which delivers circa 540 km of mains replacements) which is typically split into approximately 2 000 projects; — NGN's connections team (they undertake circa 3 500 jobs per annum across the whole NGN region).
