The purpose of this PIN is to launch a period of market consultation and invite expressions of interest on some or all of the areas of interest. Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust has identified and number of issues related to different activities in the clinical environment. Solving these issues is important for the Trust in its ongoing duty to improve patient experience, efficiencies and reduce running costs. The Trust believes the current products and services available in the market either don't recognise or don't address the problem properly. The Trust wants to raise awareness of these issues among the supply chain and indicate its intention to procure workable solutions that meet its requirements. The Trust then wants to challenge different sections of the supply chain to address 1 or more of these challenges, as these unmet needs are recognised to be applicable to all NHS organisations. Clogs are the typical footwear used by staff in operating theatres, but unlike the rest of the protective clothing used in theatres they are not cleaned after every use. After each theatre shift the shoes are put back in lockers and re-used at the next shift without any effective cleaning process. The clogs are then replaced every 3-6 months which is an extra cost implication with a large workforce and multi-disciplinary staff. Clog washers have been used in the past with mixed assurances and can often cause shrinkage to the clogs themselves due to the amount of times footwear is washed and the type of product. Unmet need: A cost-effective solution to ensure the cleanliness and hygiene of footwear in operating theatres at every use that is comfortable, safe and acceptable to theatre staff.
