SUPPLY OF CATALOGUE DATA FOR THE BL SOUND ARCHIVE ONLINE CATALOGUE

Tender description

The British Library is seeking an external supplier of catalogue data about commercially released sound recordings to complement its Sound Archive’s own cataloguing activity. (For the sake of clarity, this is NOT about the retrospective conversion of legacy catalogue data). Suppliers must provide a comprehensive range of data that describe sound recordings released in the UK and which are held by the Sound Archive. In a typical month the Sound Archive receives 1500 releases in compact disc format and a smaller number of releases on other formats. The supplier will be expected to match, as far as possible, this rate of monthly intake and to provide data to a minimum requirement: • Record label name, prefix and serial number • Product title • Phonogram or (P) date • Format • EAN or other barcode • Track or work titles and associated composers, authors and arrangers • Performers or other contributors with roles and functions clearly designated in relation to each track (e.g. a song) or group of tracks (e.g. a work in many parts or movements) • Recording dates and recording locations for each track where these are available on the product • Classification (e.g. Pop, Classical, Jazz, etc) The supplier will permit the British Library to convert and upload the supplied data in accordance with the requirements of its destination database (currently SirsiDynix’s Symphony integrated library system).
