Border Force officers at Southend Airport are regularly involved in caring of minors and vulnerable adults, as part of their duty of care obligation. Primarily, this function is required for immigration and PCEA custody cases. Under the Police & Criminal Evidence Act 1984, it states that minors and vulnerable adults should have the availability of an appropriate adult when in custody. Under the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999, Border Force must provide a responsible adult for minors, under the age of 18 years old. Therefore a contract needs to be put in place at Southend Airport to ensure that this service is readily available. Border Force require a 12 month contract to be put in place with a sole supplier, who will provide appropriate Responsible Adult Services at Southend Airport.
