Summary of the work Understand user needs/requirements from different projects/stakeholders. Understand security/compliance requirements. Investigate and document technology options. Assess balance between open standards, open source and best of breed solutions. Build a technical working group across several BIS organisations. Build a working alpha and help project teams use the new platform. Specialist role Product manager Expected Contract Length 24 months, but may be shorter, depending on how the project develops and the needs change. Latest start date 01/07/2016 Who Speclialist Work With BIS Digital Group CTO, developers, DevOps contractors in digital delivery teams, delivery manager, architects What Specialists Work On The Technical Product Manager will lead the work supported by a technical working group and a Delivery Manager. Initial focus will be to run a discovery to understand: - user needs, technology options, hosting options, what’s already in use across the group, how we can make this cost effective, how we can operationalise the platform to ensure it’s scalable and easy to adopt Skills & Experience • Experience in design and implementation of PaaS and SaaS cloud platforms with strong focus on platform design meeting technical community needs (Scores 9%) • Experience of implementing and exiting cloud hosting agreements with a rigorous focus on SLAs and PKIs driving continuous improvement (Scores 7%) • Strong contract and supplier management skills (Scores 2%) • Experience of establishing and managing devops, webops, clusterops teams (Scores 5%) • Understanding of a wide range of opensource technologies and how to integrate them into different environments (Scores 6%) • Have proven experience balancing changing priorities and dealing with ambiguity (Scores 5%) • Experience of using agile or lean delivery methodology with full automation of continuous deployment (Scores 5%) • Knowledge of security and data protection regulations (Scores 5%) • Experience of building clear, compelling business cases (Scores 5%) • Proven experience of driving continuous, provable improvements and efficiencies based on data (Scores 4%) • Proven experience of managing budgets, delivering value for money and forecasting need (Scores 4%) Nice to Haves • Good stakeholder management skills (Scores 1%) • Experience of building clear, compelling business cases (Scores 1%) • Have previous experience in a government cloud transformation programme (Scores 1%) Work Location Department for Business Innovation and Skills 1 Victoria Street London SW1E 5ND Working Arrangments You’ll be in our office in the Department for Business Innovation and Skills which is based in London. Some travel will be required to Coventry and Swindon in the short term. Hours and working pattern as needed to deliver a professional service in an efficient way, with the assumption of 5 days on-site.
