Tender description

As a safety measure NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) filter blood components to reduce the white blood cell concentration. A proportion of filtered components are sampled and tested by the routine Quality Monitoring laboratories to ensure compliance with Guidelines for the Blood Transfusion Services in the UK and the Blood Safety and Quality Regulations for white blood cell (WBC) count specifications such that 90 % of component have <1x106 WBC per unit and 99 % of components have <5x106 WBC per unit, both with 95 % confidence. Therefore, NHSBT have a let a contract for a reagent system for the enumeration of white blood cells in leucodepleted blood. The reagent system is compatible with the current NHSBT flow cytometers. This contract is for a period of 4 years (48 months).
