Belfast City Council has built an innovation centre at Forthriver Business Park on the Springfield Road in west Belfast. The capital build project is part funded by Invest Northern Ireland and the European Regional Development Fund under the sustainable competitiveness Programme for Northern Ireland. Innovative business start-up and accelerated business growth through innovation, research and development is key to developing a long-term, sustainable economy. The new centre forms part of the Council's Investment Programme pledge to support regeneration by investing in infrastructure which will make it easier for businesses to start up and grow. This, in turn, will create wealth and employment opportunities for local residents. The Council has appointed an experienced operator to manage the Innovation Centre and to deliver the key objectives of the project. The Council may also require the operator to provide other services that are not currently included within the Project Agreement or contract to meet the future operational and service requirements for the Innovation Centre and the Council's local economic development services. The contract period will be 5 years (60 months) with the option, at the sole discretion of the Council, to extend for a further 3 periods of 3 years (i.e. a maximum total extension of 9 years), which provides for a maximum contract term of 14 years.
