Construction work for halls of residence

Tender description

Reaseheath College is looking to appoint a main building contractor to design and construct a new student residential accommodation within the main campus, including associated building services and civil engineering works, including associated external works. Block 1 accommodation is circa 200 Nr student bedrooms including en suite facilities. Block 2 accommodation is circa 100 Nr student bedrooms including en suite facilities. Each block of accommodation is three storeys. All accommodation will primarily consist of 6 bedroom cluster apartments with shared living/kitchen space. The minimum usable size for a standard student bedroom shall be circa 14, 5 m² including the area of the en-suite facilities. Kitchen/dining/living areas for a 6 bedroom cluster shall be a minimum of 27 m² usable space. Clusters that have wheelchair accessible rooms shall also have a kitchen/ dining room that is accessible to a wheelchair users. Wheelchair accessible standard accommodation — 5 % of total room numbers but subject to further discussion. The minimum usable size for a wheelchair accessible student bedroom shall be Minimum 21 m², including the area of the en-suite facilities. There is a requirement for communal laundry areas. It is anticipated that the new building will be completed and commissioned in readiness for use at the commencement of the Spring Term (January 2018). Allowing for the College's own process and activities, this would suggest a practical completion date no later than December 2017. It is anticipated that the main building contractor will be entirely responsible for all infrastructure and utilities requirements and fitting out the new residential accommodation, together with all furniture to provide a ‘turn-key’ facility.
