Tender description
16/SJM/013 Interpreting System: The School of Languages and Area Studies is 1 of the largest language departments in the UK with over 400 specialist modern foreign language undergraduate students and over 200 postgraduate linguistics students. The demand for translation units is high and the provision of specialist facilities for teaching conference interpreting and simultaneous interpreting are seen as essential in regards to enhancing our current provision in this area. The aim is therefore to install a Professional Interpreting Facility with an Integrated Training System within an identified a room in Park Building. A drawing is attached showing the layout of the room and some basic measurements along with another drawing showing 1 potential option for this room however other options will be considered. It is essential that the Interpreting Suite will replicate the experience our students will have when working in the professional interpreting industry. The systems will include features such as multiple channel selection and the ability to monitor 2 channels simultaneously via a single headset. There will also be features to support students who are visually impaired. We will require the installation of 7 2-people interpreter booths and a conference table for 12 students/delegates plus an academic/chairperson. 1 of the booths and the academic/chairperson position must be able to provide disabled access. We seek bids from interpreting technology specialist who have demonstrable experience in installing a number of professional interpreter training solutions in professional environments and universities. There may also be a requirement for a site visit to a local installation for the purposes of evaluation. The requirement is to have this facility all set up and working by the start of the 2016/17 academic year. Therefore the installation would ideally be completed in August 2016 and training completed in September 2016.
