Tender description

In June 2014, the Commission published the terms of reference for the inquiry into non-natural deaths of adults with mental health conditions in detention. The inquiry focused on detained patients and the prisons and police settings. The findings from this inquiry were published in the report, 'Preventing Deaths in Detention of Adults with Mental Health Conditions' in February 2015 Throughout the process of the inquiry, stakeholders raised their concerns that as well as the focus on deaths in detention there are also a number of deaths that occur soon after an individual leaves detention. Several stakeholders have suggested there is confusion about which, if any, agencies are responsible for individuals. This project will provide analysis of the available data and exploration of practices to prevent deaths that follow detention (focusing on police and prisons).
