Tender description
Clare County Council is seeking to engage a qualified geologist to provide research, communications, product development and educational services to the Geopark programme for a period of 10 months. Where a Company wishes to apply, a suitably qualified individual has to be assigned to the contract. The Geologist will be involved in the following: • The development, management and implementation of a trails programme highlighting the geology and heritage of local towns and villages, utilising best practice as developed under the LIFE project. • Developing, managing and implementing a research, education and archive programme in association with international and local educational organisations, involving liaison with universities, support for the Caherconnell Geology Field School, the creation of research programmes for the Young Scientist Exhibition, and providing training/educational programmes and field trips. • Liaising with the Geological Survey of Ireland to develop guidelines and awareness programmes, and to co- ordinate the existing research required for the Geological Survey’s input into the GeoparkLIFE project. • Developing, implementing and measuring a Geology themed festival in early June, to coincide with International Geoparks Week, ensuring it complements and enhances the overall festival offering in the Burren. • Enhancing the signage and the interpretative and educational values of the current Geopark Geosites. This would involve developing interpretative and educational programmes at these locations for schools, tourism businesses and visitors. • Delivering a Geopark communications and training programme with staff at Visitor Centres and Information Points in the Burren. • Provision of training on GeoparkLIFE Training Programme on Geopark awareness and communication This contract was awarded to Dr. Eamon Doyle
