Plaza Concourse Development at University Hospital Llandough

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board (UHB) are seeking to extend and improve the current main entrance to the University Hospital of Llandough. The area to be developed is approximately 600sqm and the initial vision is that this area would be developed as a Plaza with retail units to include:- 1.A meet and greet reception (to be operated by UHB) 2.Coffee shop (to be operated by the UHB) 3.Retail outlet(s) for the sale of newspapers, magazines and books, stationery, confectionary and snacks, milk, bread, basic foodstuffs, essential toiletries, essential value for money night clothes, underwear etc. 4.marketplace facility for sessional retail use, e.g. gifts, farmers’ market 5.Cashpoint (free service) 6.Post Office facilities The hospital currently has approximately 465 beds and is situated in the village of Llandough, 4 miles to the west of Cardiff City Centre and provides services to the residents of Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan and for some services, the residents of South and Mid Wales. The proposed Plaza forms one element of the development of University Hospital Llandough including a 135 bed Adult Mental Health Unit on the site. During public consultation the UHB gave a commitment that the Unit would be fully integrated with the main hospital, enabling patients to have access to normal daily living activities, including shops, cafe and banking facilities. In keeping with this, it is planned that the Adult Mental Health Unit will be constructed on a site opposite the main hospital entrance, with the proposed Plaza providing a focal point for all patients, visitors and staff at the hospital.
