Supervised Toothbrushing Programme

The mobile dental provider At Home Dental is currently providing a supervised toothbrushing (STB) to B&NES priority population. This scheme targets 3–5-year-old children living in and attending settings in areas of an IMD measurement of 1-6. The service outlined below is to provide additional provision to the current commissioned service. Supervised toothbrushing: • To enable more children in nursery and school settings within B&NES to participate in supervised toothbrushing each day that they attend an eligible setting. • To ensure children brush their own teeth under the supervision of suitably trained staff within the setting. • To ensure staff are suitably trained and supported by the Provider. • To ensure supervised toothbrushing is embedded in the daily routine of the setting by appointing an Oral Health Champion in each setting. • To ensure that staff within the Provider organisation are appropriately trained and qualified to provide oral health advice on infection control and to monitor on site delivery of the scheme in each setting. • To provide home packs including a toothbrush, fluoride toothpaste and oral health information which will be distributed to parents at the start of the school year. Oral Health Education: • To enable children outside of nursery and school settings to receive an engaging educational Oral Health training session where they can learn how to effectively brush their teeth and take care of their Oral Health. • To provide children with the resources needed to brush their teeth twice a day at home and encourage them to take care of their teeth. • Deliver on-site educational sessions to priority groups not attending settings.
