Prior Information Notice - Isle of Man Pensions Ombudsman<br /><br />The Isle of Man Treasury wishes to invite suitably qualified individuals or bodies to express an interest in being appointed as the Pensions Ombudsman for the Isle of Man. <br />The purpose of this Notice is to initiate preliminary market engagement only; it is not a call for competition. Any responses will help us to develop a specification, commercial approach, and sourcing strategy in line with Government Procurement Policy. <br />Status of the Pensions Ombudsman<br />The Pensions Ombudsman is appointed by the Isle of Man Treasury and holds and vacates their office on such terms and conditions as it thinks fit.<br />The Pensions Ombudsman exercises their statutory functions independently of any other person or body and is not subject to direction in individual cases.<br />Functions of the Pensions Ombudsman<br />The Pensions Ombudsman may investigate and determine –<br />• complaints of maladministration; and <br />• disputes of fact or law,<br />in relation to occupational and personal pension schemes.<br />Relevant qualifications and experience<br />The Pensions Ombudsman must be a qualified pensions lawyer, with a good understanding of UK pension law and case law.<br />Caseload<br />Normally around 30 to 40 complaints are made to the Pensions Ombudsman each year and generally no more than 3 complaints in a year result in the issue of a determination. <br />The Pensions Ombudsman is a part-time role and could be combined with another role. <br />Assistance <br />The Isle of Man Treasury may appoint a Deputy Pensions Ombudsman to carry out the functions of the Pensions Ombudsman at certain times.<br />Remuneration<br />The Isle of Man Treasury may pay to the Pensions Ombudsman remuneration and other amounts and reimburse expenses incurred by the Pensions Ombudsman. <br /><br /><br />Responding to this Notice<br />If you are interested in providing the services of Isle of Man Pensions Ombudsman, please respond to this Notice including detail of the following:<br />• Your relevant qualifications and experience. <br />• What additional information would help you in deciding whether to apply to provide this service should we progress to a procurement exercise.<br />• An indication of the hourly rate of pay (a range would be acceptable) that would attract you to apply to provide this service.
