The Online Prescribing Provision of Smoking Cessation Treatment

Dorset Council and Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council aim to improve and protect the health and wellbeing of the local population with an emphasis on reducing health inequalities by supporting people to stop smoking. For the past year an online pharmacy provision of nicotine free medications has been piloted with good outcomes and quit rates of just fewer than 70%. There continues to be a high demand for this provision by Live Well Dorset LWD service users along with a new government target of achieving a 5% or less smoking population in Dorset. This is for the continuation of an online provision of nicotine free medications. This is for people who currently smoke and reside in Dorset. This will be provided through Live Well Dorset (LWD) in partnership with online pharmacies (providers). The focus of the service is to offer behavioural support and advice to clients who want to stop smoking alongside the provision of prescribed nicotine-free stop smoking medications where indicated.
