Background information on Project<br />The NMR methodology group, a leading NMR academic research group, is concerned with the development of novel techniques in high resolution NMR spectroscopy, and their application to problems in chemistry, biochemistry, and medicine. In many cases this work leads to new pulse sequences and software tools, which are freely distributed on our group website: https://www.nmr.chemistry.manchester.ac.uk <br />The University of Manchester Chemistry NMR Facility provides NMR spectra and analysis support to both internal and external users, and houses instruments used by the group for the development of novel NMR techniques.<br />NMR experiments that use pulsed field gradients (PFGs) are susceptible to flow. In response to the growing use of benchtop NMR instruments for routine chemical analysis, the group seeks to acquire a benchtop NMR instrument to develop novel flow-compensated or flow-immune experiments. The anticipated completion date for the installation is set for the fourth quarter of 2025. <br /><br />Project Overview<br />The proposed instrument is designed to facilitate the development of novel flow-compensated or flow-immune NMR methods for experiments utilising PFGs for use in low-field benchtop NMR spectrometers. The instrument will therefore be equipped with triaxial PFGs as well as flow NMR equipment i.e. flow cell, tubing and pump.<br />We will develop a catalogue of flow-tolerant variants of existing pulse sequences, as well as novel pulse sequences, for use with low-field benchtop NMR spectrometers.<br />The instrument will be integrated in a multi-user environment within the Chemistry NMR facility. The generated data will be utilised in a wide range of workflows, many of which will leverage processing and analysis tools that are currently being developed within the group. <br />
