Isle of Luing Slate Quarry – Set-up & Flood Resilience Works

The project's primary deliverables include one-off capital works for the setup of the quarry site, involving site preparation, the removal of overburden, creation of an access road, the use of advanced drilling or blasting techniques to access high-quality slate within the quarry. Additionally, a temporary processing facility will be established. Lot 1: Phase 1 Initial Quarry Setup: This includes the creation of an access road within the existing redundant quarry. The removal of overburden from the historic slate production, as well as blasting and drilling the quarry face to removal the outer material to open up access to extract valuable slate. The total quarry area covers a section of land no more than 7 acres which includes the start of the access road, the production building, and the lead up to the quarry face and extraction site. Phase 2 Removal of Overburden to Shore: The excess material from the removal of the quarry face requires removal away from the quarry site. This is usually stored somewhere else on site, but the Luing Quarry is a small area with no provision for the storage of surplus material. Due to the considerable weight of material this movement is standard but in the case of the Cullipool quarry it will be deposited to the shore directly adjacent to the quarry. Phase 3 Processing Facility: Construction of a temporary facility for processing, cutting, splitting, dressing, packaging, and transporting the slate for sale..
