Tender description

The Clackmannanshire bridge opened in November 2008 to reduce the local traffic in Kincardine. 1,200m long, the structure carries the A876 over the River Forth to the northwest of the Kincardine bridge. The bridge has a speed limit of 60mph and consists of a single carriageway with a WS2+1 layout with 2 lanes southbound and 1 lane northbound with a combined footway/cycleway adjacent to the northbound lane with combined kerb drainage. The bridge consists of a three-cell prestressed concrete box girder deck supported by reinforced concrete piers and abutments. The bridge is supported on 2 No. bearings at each pier location and at both abutments. The superstructure is fixed at the four central piers, these being the navigation channel and its two adjacent spans. Water ingress into the abutment galleries has been observed for period of time, resulting in localised deterioration to cable trays and other infrastructure. Additional maintenance improvement works are also proposed. The scheme will require a contractor to conduct the following repairs in both abutments and at localised locations within the three-cell concrete box girder: Abutment concrete surface preparation and waterproofing to CD 350 fabrication and installation of galvanised steel access steps/low level platforms, Installation of replacement service cable trays, Installation and commissioning of internal abutment lighting Replacement galvanised access handrails and footings Repairs to existing bird mesh Replacement of existing vent covers in span and installation of internal reference markers. The Contractor must have demonstrable experience of similar works. The Contractor must also be approved to the applicable sector schemes for these kinds of works.
