Not Reserved Fairburn sluice (AIMS Asset ID 214316) is located between Fairburn Ings and River Aire. The Fairburn Ings is located in the Selby District of North Yorkshire and is part of a managed washland system along the left bank of the River Aire north of Castleford that also includes the Allerton and Newton Ings. The topography of the study area is low-lying and forms part of the historical floodplain of the River Aire. The village of Fairburn sits to the north east of the Ings. The village is situated on higher ground and is at a low risk of flooding.
