Residual Waste Management Contract Extension (VEAT Notification)

Tender description

The contracting authority is not awarding a new contract. This VEAT notice is in respect of a proposed modification to extend Durham County Council's existing contract for the treatment and disposal of household waste. See sections II.2.4 and IV.1.1 for further details. Lot 1: This is not a new contract opportunity, but rather a VEAT notice to inform the market that the contracting authority is seeking to extend its existing contract for the treatment and disposal of residual waste with Suez Recycling and Recovery UK Ltd which was originally awarded in 2013 and is due to expire on 31 March 2026. The extension period will be for a minimum of two years (terminating on 31 March 2028) and for a maximum of five years (with a long stop expiry date of 31 March 2031). The contracting authority is currently in procurement (alongside six other local authorities) for a longer term contractor to Design, Build, Finance and Operate an energy recovery facility for the treatment and disposal of this waste. This limited contract extension will provide flexibility for the contracting authority and ensure continuity of service provision for the treatment of non-recycled waste until such time as the successful contractor takes responsibility for the management of the waste under the new longer term contract.
