91/JW Trial IPTV Concept

Tender description

The University of Sheffield is seeking a hardware/software solution ("system") which provides a basis for a TRIAL of the IPTV concept. The purpose of the pilot would be a proof of the concept that IPTV is useful to the University and to stimulate interest across the departments as to its possible uses. The University is seeking options which represent the least cost for the duartion of the trial. In the event that the trial is judged a success the University may require further components to enable a roll-out across the University.<br /><br />The following elements will be investigated :<br />1.Off-air recording of a single foreign language station, currently recorded to tape.<br />2.Delivery of video-on-demand to targeted groups.<br />3.Off-air recording of free-to-air channels.<br />4.Re-broadcast of live events.<br /><br />The trial will commence as soon as possible and run (provisionally) until the start of the 2006 academic session.<br /><br />The closing date for return of Tenders is 12 noon on Tuesday, 28th March,2006.<br />PLEASE NOTE: There is a non refundable charge of £25.0 for the issue of Tender documents. Suppliers who submit Tender offers will be invoiced after the the Tender closing date.
