Programme* (*NB This programme is currently the Targeted Lung Health Check Programme and will be renamed Lung Screening from March 2025.) 1.1. Public Awareness Campaigns for SELCA 1.1.1. Objectives of the SELCA Early Cancer Diagnosis programme • To work with stakeholders across London to increase earlier diagnosis of cancer through 3 key delivery areas: o Timely Presentation – Increasing public awareness of the signs and symptoms of Cancer o Screening – increasing uptake of the cancer screening programmes o Primary Care Pathways – working with primary care to improve referral practice to support earlier cancer diagnosis. • South East London Cancer Alliance serves the populations of all 6 South East London boroughs – Lambeth, Southwark, Lewisham, Greenwich, Bexley and Bromley. 1.1.2. Objectives of the Media Planning Strategy for Cancer Campaigns • Collaborate with SELCA and our creative suppliers in order to develop a media planning strategy based on data and population insights, in order to amplify campaigns in South East London and reach our target populations of need. • Ultimately to increase public awareness of the signs and symptoms of cancers in order to encourage people to come forward to primary care if they have symptoms of concern. • In 2024-25 the campaigns will focus on Bowel Cancer and Oesophageal Cancers. Objectives of the SELCA Lung Screening programme • Invite all eligible patients (ever smokers aged 55-74 years) for the whole South East London (SEL) population • Increase the uptake to 50% of those who have been invited on to the programme • Increase the uptake to 45% of those who have been invited on to the programme who live in the most deprived areas of SEL • Diagnose lung cancers at an earlier stage giving more treatment options. 1.2.2. Objectives of the Media Planning Strategy for the Lung Screening Programme Campaign • Collaborate with SELCA’s Lung Screening Programme team and their creative supplier to develop a media planning strategy based on data and population insights, in order to amplify campaigns in South East London and reach our total population and specifically those groups that don’t engage with the programme. • Ultimately to increase public awareness of the Lung Screening in order to encourage people to attend, to match areas across SEL when the programme is live • Lung screening is currently available to patients in Southwark, Greenwich, Lambeth and Lewisham and will be rolled out to Bromley and Bexley in 2026 • Understanding the barriers and population groups that do not currently take part in the programme.
