551 - Independent Travel Training

Tender description

Wigan Council are seeking to award a contract for the provision of an Independent Travel Training service for adults and children. Independent Travel Training is a free tailored and practical service that offers children and adults with learning disabilities a set of essential skills, enabling them to travel independently, without fear by public travel or on foot and access their community. The training will promote independent life skills, improve self-esteem and confidence, reduce social isolation and empower children and residents to make regular journeys in the community safely. This will encourage our children with SEND and residents with additional needs to be less reliant on council services, parents and carers to take them to places and will lead to more opportunities for our residents to take part in social and community activities. The service will be managed by Adult Social Care and Transport, Fleet and Home to School Operations within Wigan Council.
