Dumfries and Galloway Council Core Paths Plan Review

Dumfries and Galloway’s 1,900km network of core paths benefits both local people and visitors by providing a framework of routes for recreation and for travel. Core paths also help to manage access in environmentally sensitive areas and assist land management. The core path network includes natural and constructed paths and caters for many users including walkers, cyclists, horse-riders, and canoeists. Lot 1: We require suitably qualified consultants to assist and undertake an initial review of the core path plan with the following aims to; 1. Improve connectivity of the current plan by utilising existing routes. 2. Identify missing strategic links within the network 3. Check that existing routes remain at an acceptable minimum standard for public use. 4. Review mapping of existing plan to identify change of line of routes or identify where upgraded/new routes have been constructed or used differently by the public. 5.Public consultation. The Countryside and Access Service continue to deliver a programme of improvements as agreed by committee to improve all core paths by bringing them up to a reasonable standard; removing path obstructions, improving path infrastructure, and erecting signage on all core paths routes, to meet the requirements set out in the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003.
