The government’s ambition is that by 2026, all parents and carers of primary school-aged children who need it will be able to access term time childcare in their local area from 8am-6pm, so that parents can access employment and improve labour market participation. To support this ambition, the government announced that it will provide start-up funding over two academic years to support local authorities and providers in England to introduce or expand childcare provision on either side of the school day, which parents of primary school-aged children will be able to pay to access. Wraparound childcare: guidance for local authorities - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk) Bedford Borough are seeking a supplier to carry out a Wraparound Needs Assessment to assess supply and demand and expansion of wraparound childcare provision that is accessible to children and families, including those with SEND. 1.Undertake the mapping of current wraparound provision across Bedford Borough, cross referencing the data provided by the DfE. Confirm current wraparound provision available; days and times open, ages cared for and numbers of spaces available. 2. Consult with parents/carers, schools and providers, and children about demand for wraparound childcare. What is needed? What would they like? What are the barriers to opening Monday to Friday 7.30/8- school start and school end- 6pm? What support would they need to expand / extend sessions? Are the wrap around clubs accessible to all children, including those with SEND? 3. Training and qualifications assessment. Collect data to establish current qualifications and training levels of staff working in wraparound childcare. Would they want to participate in training and qualifications 4.
